The C:N ratio in the particulate matter collected from Lake Shinji increased during the incubation and the decomposition rate constant of nitrogen showed higher values than those of carbon. It suggested that the nitrogenous fraction in the particulate matter was more easily decomposed than the carbonaceous fraction.
