The cause has been suggested to be the changes in the children's environment and in theway they play.Children now spend little time playing outside and are apt to stay in the house and playalone with an electronic toy.As reported by Loke, Rousseau, Froebel and Kurahashi, infancy is a period during which the baseicstructure of the human being is constructed and physical development influences future mental development.Playing outside in nature is important for the physical development in children. Accordingly, weneed to discuss the recent developmental problems of elementary school children from the viewpoint ofthe infants' physique.The best way to build the infant's' physique is not intensive physical training or sports. Firstly, theinfant's' physical ability grows comprehensively. Secondly, the sort of ability that grows in infancy isthe ability to adjust, which does not require intensive training but needs experience of a variety of fundamentalmoves. Thirdly, sports activities have undesirable mental effects on infants, such as feeling ofinferiority and loss of will powers.The best environment for the infant's development is one that will promote willful physical activitywith a variety of foundational exercise. For example,\"The Kindergartens of Woods\" in Germany providessuch an environments. It is reported that the infants in the Kindergartens of Woods play willinglyusing a variation of big and the small movements that nurture the ability to adjust. The development oftheir physical ability, judgment, thinking, creativity, sociability and the willingness to exercise and learningis promoted through a variety of willful physical play.
