| 内容記述 | イザベラ・メアリー・ビートン（Isabella Mary Beeton, 1836-65）、通称ビートン夫人は、英国で最も著名な料理書編著者の一人である。1861年に出版されたThe Book of Household Management（BHM）を皮切りに、彼女の名を冠した作品は世界各地に普及した。ところが、BHMの翻訳・抄訳に関する本格的な研究は行われていない。本研究では、ビートン夫人に関連する作品の翻訳書に着目し、（１）原典、（２）訳者、（３）翻訳の特徴を調査・考察した。調査対象とした文献は、BHMの縮刷版である1872年出版のBeeton’s Every-Day Cookery and Housekeeping Book（ECHB）とその抄訳本『家内心得草 一名保家法』本編（1876）に加え、BHMの抄訳本『泰西家庭精訓 巻一』（1877）である。ECHB はBHMと同じく、多様な版がヴィクトリア朝英国や他国の家庭へ普及し、広く使用されていたことが推察できた。その抄訳本の『家内心得草』は、これまで使用されていた女性の呼称とは異なる漢籍由来の「主婦」の語を多用し、新たな女性像を示したと考えられる。また、BHMの抄訳本『泰西家庭精訓 巻一』について、訳者や本文に関する調査・考察を行った。原文と訳文の冒頭部分の比較により、原文２行目以降の内容が取捨選択され、訳出箇所はほぼ正確に翻訳されていることが判明した。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Isabella Mary Beeton（1836-65）, commonly known as Mrs. Beeton, was one of Britain’s most famous cookbook authors. Starting with The Book of Household Management（BHM）, published in 1861, her eponymous works have spread worldwide. However, thus far, there has been no comprehensive research on the translation of BHM. In this study, I explore the translation of Beeton’s works, focusing on（1） the original sources,（2） the translators, and（3） the characteristics of the translations. Beeton’s Every-Day Cookery and Housekeeping Book（ECHB）, a reduced-size edition of BHM and published in 1872, and its abridged version, Kanaikokoroegusa Ichimei-hokaho（1876）, and BHM ’s abridged edition, Taisei Katei Seikun vol.1（1877） were examined. ECHB as well as BHM has various versions and spread to households in Victorian England and other countries. Kanaikokoroegusa is believed to have shown a new image of women, frequently using the word shufu（主婦）, derived from Chinese classics. As for Taisei Katei Seikun, a comparison of the main and the translated texts revealed that some sections of the content from the second line onwards were chosen and translated almost verbatim. | |||||||||||
